Amazon Is Now Listing the First Book for Sale

A Dog and A Clock has made its appearance on Amazon, and the good news is that it is slightly ahead of schedule (we had been aiming for May 1st availability). It may be a day or two before it shows as ready to ship (the printing only takes a couple of days), so if you plan to purchase copies from there, be sure to sign up for an email alert or add it to your wish list!

You may order directly from this site (see HERE) and as many as you would like will be on their way to you pronto.

The dog of Angelo del Plato watched intently as his master was lowered into the grave. Eight years later, friends of the family acknowledged that they could not remember a day when that loving dog did not visit his master’s gravesite, usually sitting a while on the turf over his master’s body… Even those who are not dog lovers must admire and commend the faithfulness of that dog to his master. It is a sharp rebuke to many Christians for their lack of faithfulness to their Master!

Enjoy these easy-to-read short devotions by Roger Ellsworth–and a good cup of coffee at the same time!

Devotions Going Global

Publishing is an Exciting Ministry

One of the great promises of the Old Testament is found in Malachi 1:11. In it, the LORD of Hosts–Jehovah Sabaoth–declares that His name shall be great among the nations.

How is His name made great in the vast, diverse countries of our world?

It is when the knowledge of His person and character is plainly set before people in such a way that they may respond–respond in the two Ts of the gospel: Turning and Trusting. That is, turning away from sin, and trusting in the Savior appointed. This is what is sometimes called repentance and faith.

Turning

Trusting

Publishing is a way of making God’s name great among the nations!

My Coffee Cup Meditations are published and distributed with a global vision and with the intent that people from all around the world will have access to them.

Join with the author and publisher that God will honor the success of this new initiative. And be sure to order your copies–one for you and at least one for a family member or friend–to help get the word out!

It’s Just Gone Midnight, and…

The Typesetting of Book 1 Is Done!

It’s just a little after midnight as this post is being prepared, and it’s a delightful thought that the final typesetting is now complete, and we are soon to send the first book to the printers!

Publishing has undergone paradigm-shift in recent years; what used to be a laborious and time-consuming exercise is still somewhat laborious, but with several efficiencies added to it in the advent of desktop publishing.

Gone is the need to send work to external agencies; gone is the need for paper proofs (or even for galleys); gone is the risk of committing to lengthy print-runs with the “Who knows how this will turn out?” aspect that so easily would impede a final decision on the if-to or when-to print thinking…

We think you will love the My Coffee Cup Meditations books. We plan for there to be several more following, God willing.

If you like what you read when you get your copy, please go ahead and tell your friends and especially call them to action by sending them to Facebook where they can share the idea with the rest of the world!

Stating an Aim Clearly and Succinctly

Keeping the Focus Clear Even in Short Compass

Putting together a shortened form of the mission statement for the purpose of a Facebook short description was quite challenging. It had to be within 150 characters, not much more than the length of a tweet.

It remarkably focused our attention. Here is how we defined it–see if you agree that it distills the mission statement that follows:

Facebook Description:

Short, Bible-based devotions to help you consider God’s greatness, the wonderful gospel of Jesus, and be better equipped for life here and hereafter.

Website Description:

My Coffee Cup Meditations are short, easy-to-read, engagingly presented devotions based on the Bible, the Word of God. Each reading takes a single idea or theme and develops it in a thought-provoking way so that you are inspired to consider the greatness of God, the relevance of the good news of the life, death, resurrection, and coming-again of Jesus, and are better equipped for life in this world and well prepared for the world to come.

Francis Bacon made the important point that “writing makes a precise man.” Keeping precise in our intentions in the focal points of the readings in My Coffee Cup Meditations is a hallmark. Read them and see if you agree–we think you will–and then share them with your family, friends, and work colleagues!

Publishing Intentionally

Look What’s in the Mission Statement!

I love the mission statement for My Coffee Cup Meditations.

The statement emerged so naturally. Consider the fourfold focal points:

  • They’re not long-winded;
  • They are based on the Bible;
  • They consider the greatness of God, and are gospel focused;
  • They help readers to live well in this world and be prepared for the next.

We think you will love these readings, and that you will want to share them with your family, friends, and work colleagues!

We’ve Got the Covers Covered

Judge the Book by Its Cover?

They say you should never judge the book by its cover. But, well, people DO judge the book by its cover.

So we thought long and hard about how to do the covers for My Coffee Cup Meditations.

“They should be warm and inviting, on the one hand, and yet also they should communicate that they are interrelated and that they have a family likeness,” was the opinion of one person.

And so the idea began to develop. Quadrants, perhaps somewhat in the configuration of the cross. A transparency to hold the title; a texture to hold the logo (don’t you love the steaming coffee icon?) and a warm, inviting, perhaps steaming image of coffee to go in the right sector of the cover.

Oh, yes, the fonts, too; they should be crisp, elegant, dignified, inviting… and the back of the book should have appeal as well.

Judge the book by its cover? Go on, why not just this one time!
