How the Idea Came About

An Inquiry Email from Roger Ellsworth

“I have some devotional readings,” the author’s email stated. “I wonder whether these could be used in published form…”

The question was an intriguing one to me as a publishing consultant. I reviewed them and loved them straightaway. Later that day, pressed for time and unable to return the author’s email, I called him on my cell phone. “Roger, yes, I think we can make a good series from these readings,” I said. “I’d like to think more about it and how best to do it, but, in principle, I believe we should proceed and publish these.”

Some time later, my wife and I were enjoying a late-night cup of tea. I had been reading a few of the devotions to her. “Coffee,” she exclaimed. “We need to put the books into a series that is associated with coffee… something to do with meditations; how about Coffee Cup Meditations?”

It was the gem of an idea and we pursued it. A Google search confirmed that the domain name (MyCoffeeCupMeditations.com) was available, and, presto, the idea was up and running, and about to hit the road!
